The accuracy of any hearing test is largely dependant on the test environment. The American National Standards Institute, ANSI, has issued a standard which defines the maximum permissible background noise during a diagnostic audiometric evaluation. OSHA has also defined maximum background noise level in the 1983 Hearing Conservation Amendment.
